Is steering lock wire mandatory?

Probably a really dumb question, but may I ask what the steering lock wire actually does? Is it required to start the car when using remote start function?

Hello,

 

Yes it is mandatory.

 

It is what unlocks the steering wheel and allows the vehicle to start in some cases.
