Question regarding 1A Diode in 2014 Mazda CX-5 and Mazda 3.

Hello,

I'm getting readt to install two Mazda EVO-MAZT1s into a 2015 Mazda 3 and a 2014 Mazda CX-5.  I'm prepping up everything and according to the guides 35231 and 35241 I need a 1k Ohm resistor, a 1A diode, and a 10A fuse.

Both schematics tell me where to place the resistors, but neither of them tell me where to place the 1A diode and the fuse.  I'm guessing I may not need a fuse at all due to the Mazda T-Harness.  As for the diode, the only thing that I noticed was that because I'm not using a data link I have to cut some wires, one of which has a warning specifying a 1A current maximum.  Although it doesn't specifically say, I'm guessing this is where I'm supposed to put the diode with the cathode facing towards the remote start module.  Is this correct?  If not, is the 1A diode necessary at all?

The diode will not be needed as you are using a T-Harness.

Thank you for the response.  So with the T-Harness and without data link, I still need to cut the B4 wire and splice it into the 1A current RS2 wire but I won't need the diode.  Got it.

Was I correct about the fuse as well?  That it is not actually necessary to put it in line with something?
the power wire for your remote starter will have a in line fuse built into it i would imagine...This is how the remote starter and evo get its power so if that fuse blows no power go to either module.

Thank you for the advice.  Becuase of it, I realiezed that I was using the wrong instruction set.  I'm actaully doing the stand alone installation.  So now I'm using guides 35201 (Mazda 3) and 35211 (CX-5).  The CX-5 guide still has the diode and fuse requirement but I'm guessing that's a mistake.

I want to use configuration 2 to retain doorlock funtionality on both.  My question now is if the RF kit is necessary since it has it listed for config 2 but not config 1.  I'm guessing not but it may be an option to add later on down the line just to boost range.  For right now, I'm not going to go with it if possible since I didn't realize it was something to add.

I won't be adding the hoodpin switch and I'll be closing off the external input wire.
How are you going to control remote start and door lock control? oem remote? or aftermarket RF kit?Also if the vehicle is equipped with an OEM hood pin switch..... this will dictate which install you should follow...If you are unsure...lower the drivers window...arm the vehicle with the oem remote...wait a minute... then reach in a pop the hood open...if their is a hood pin the alarm will go off...

and yes the guides are totally different if you are installing the evo in stand alone....
I plan on controlling everything through the OEM remote in which case I'm tracking that I don't really need the RF kit.  If I want any type of extended range then I understand that I can add an aftermarket RF kit anytime down the line and I will then control everything through those remotes.

Thanks for the info on the OEM alarm.  I'll try it out to double check but I'm sure it's not on my vehicles.  I only have the sport trim on the Mazda 3 and I know that none of the 2014 US CX-5 models come equipped with an OEM alarm.

So if I decide that I want to have some type of alarm capability then I can go with connection three.  If I want hood protection then I need to add a hood pin or mercury switch. But it does look like I will have to ground out the 11 wire off the fuse box if I go with connection three.

Since I'm not going with the hood pin, that means I'll need to ground out the A8 hood pin wire, correct?
yes if their is no hood pin present you need to install a jumper wire between the 2 connectors as shown in plans 1 and 3

I'll move on with grounding out the A8 hood pin along with installing the jumper wire for plan 3.

Thanks for all the info.  You've been a big help.  It's the first time I've installed a Fortin product, so I'm looking forward to it.  Does Fortin have a recommended RF kit in case I decide to add it later on down the line?
If you permanently ground A8 the vehicle will not remote start.

This is a hood pin wire...so if its grounded the module thinks the hood is open and it will not remote start.

If you connect it you must use a hood pin....
You know what, you are correct.  I've got some rust it looks like.  I think I'll go with the valet switch instead.  Thanks!
Also just as an fyi...When you are going through the programming if you are having any trouble please call us, we are here to help :)

These modules once you get to a certain point you cannot go backwards in the programming as we teach it to the vehicle BCM as an oem remote starter, and if the module gets messed up you will require another new module to program it correctly, so best to stop and give us a shout...
