Can remote start timer be reset without shutting down the vehicle?

+2 votes
I have two questions:

1) I was wondering if the remote start timer can be reset without letting it runout (vehicle shutting down).

2) I was also wondering if there is a way to initiate the remote start timer while the vehicle is already running from a normal push-button start. This way I would not have to shut off the vehicle and restart it on remote start.

Thanks.

1- while the vehicle is remote started, there is no way to reset the timer.

2- Press 3x Lock on your factory remote; this will activate the starter. Before leaving the vehicle, press the push-to-start button one time and leave the vehicle. This process is called idle mode.

2- So is Idle mode different from the regular remote start triggered from the remote (3x)? I'm used to hitting the push-to-start twice, so does pushing it once disable the timer? What actually happens?

You have to push the button once to shut down the vehicle (although the car will not actually shut down since you activated the remote starter beforehand) and let it run off the remote starter. It's the same thing as if you had a key and not a push-to-start. After activating idle mode, you would turn off and take out your key from the ignition barrel to let the vheicle run off the remote starter for its designated amount of time.

Idle mode and regular start are basically the same thing except one of them starts the vehicle while the vehicle was off, and the other allows the car to stay running after it was started/driven/parked.

Robert,

I tried to initiate idle mode with the factory key fob (while already running) by pressing lock 3X, and it does not do anything. Is there an option I need to enable?
Just to update you on a few changes since july, and something that was not clear. Mostly about the question 1 you had.

With an aftermarket remote (such as the Fortin FTX64), you can now reset the remote start timer while the vehicle is remote started by simply pressing the start button again. This is not available with 3x lock start though.

For the idle mode, does the RED LED on top of the unit turn on when pressing the lock button 3x while the engine is running? Also, does the BLUE LED flash when pressing lock while the engine is running?
No, nothing happens.

I installed an Evo-One into a buddy's Xterra over the weekend and was able to see how this feature worked with the FTX64 and I would like the same functionality: notifications/status checks, etc. I guess with having the Smart Key/Push-to-Start, I have to have the smart key fob and the FTX on the same keychain - not ideal. I've been using either the SmartStart app or the 3X lock on the key fob. Any suggestions or anything I'm not considering? Seems like my only option is to revert to the DBALL2.
Idle mode is not working off the oem remote because the commands are not being detected while the engine is running; blue led is not flashing. We have always detected the remotes on this car while the engine is on. I would suggest a re-flash to 76.24 even though you currently have 76.24, reset and reprogram the bypass.

Have you tried activating idle mode via the smartstart app? It's silly but i dont see why it wouldnt work unless the SmartStart does not allow sending a start signal when ignition is present.
